Costa Rica runs on Central Standard Time year-round, never more than two hours from any US time zone. Surf the South peaks at dawn, be sharp for the 9am standup, and take the 4pm from the terrace while everyone else is stuck in traffic.

How fast is the internet, really?
The house is on fiber, speed-tested at 425 Mbps both down AND up. Symmetric upload is the number that matters for video calls and pushing code. A complete Starlink system is in the house, ready to be put into action on the rare occasion the fiber goes down.
What happens if the power blips?
Battery backup keeps the internet, lights, and other essentials running through outages, and the house has solar panels plus a backup water tank. Your call doesn't drop because a branch fell somewhere in Guanacaste.
Is there an actual place to work?
Yes: a dedicated desk and work area (not a kitchen-counter compromise), plus a full espresso machine within arm's reach. Prefer coworking? OUTPOST and The Gilded Iguana's work-friendly spaces are both in the heart of Guiones.
What about time zones?
Costa Rica stays on Central Standard Time all year (no daylight saving), so you're never more than two hours off any US time zone. Morning surf, 9am standup, afternoon deep work, sunset. The schedule just works.
Can I stay longer than a vacation?
Costa Rica's digital nomad visa (Law 10.008) grants remote workers a 1-year stay, renewable for a second year, with foreign income exempt from local income tax (requirements include ~$3,000/month income and health coverage).
